  • Little Big Town to be part of Cherry Point concert lineup

  • One of the hottest acts in country music ó and one recently recognized by the Country Music Association ó is coming to Cherry Point as part of the WRNS Guitar Pull scheduled for Wednesday at the base theater.
    Little Big Town will be among the four acts scheduled to take the stage for the show, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and performances beginning at 7:30 p.m.
    Little Big Town won CMA awards for vocal group of the year and single of the year for "Pontoon" during the Nov. 1 awards show.
    "Itís a thrill to bring them in with their talent and have them perform for Eastern North Carolina and all the troops at Cherry Point," said Tommy Garrett, music and program director, and afternoon D.J. for WRNS-FM 95.1 in New Bern. "Itís as good as it gets. Iíve seen them, and their harmonies are right on. Itís probably the best Iíve ever seen."
    Besides "Pontoon," the quartetís hits also include "Boondocks" and "Little White Church."
    Kelleigh Bannen is scheduled to open the fourth-annual show by singing the national anthem. Her top 40 single, "Sorry on the Rocks," is still climbing the charts.
    Also set to take the stage will be Dustin Lynch, whose single "Cowboys and Angels" peaked at No. 2 on the country music charts.
    Josh Thompson, who played at last yearís Guitar Pull, is "back by popular demand," Garrett said. His hits include "Wonít Be Lonely Long," "Beer on the Table" and "Way Out Here."
    Tickets are free, but must be won through the radio station, which offers chances every weekday by calling WRNS at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
    A promotional ticket giveaway is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Piggly Wiggly at 1040 Henderson Drive in Jacksonville.
    "Donít be surprised if we have some last-minute ticket stops," Garrett said.
    A limited supply of tickets will also be available for WRNS County Club members through the stationís website at www.wrns.com.
    Those attending are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps Reserveís Toys for Tots campaign.
    "This is our fourth year, and thatís been a part of it every year," Garrett said of the Toys for Tots donations.
