Democrat George W. Grahamís many years of elected service will continue in the N.C. House.

Graham handily beat Republican Jim Dancy to fill the N.C. House District 12 seat occupied by the late William Wainwright.

With all precincts reporting, Graham totaled 21,500 votes (65 percent) to Dancyís 11,338 (35 percent) in unofficial returns Tuesday night.

"Iím ecstatic but extremely humbled that the citizens of our three counties would have enough confidence in me to serve," said Graham, a 30-year Lenoir County commissioner and presently chairman of that board.

He spent Election Day traveling from the Harlowe area to LaGrange to Snow Hill and then listened to the returns at the Woodmen of the World Community Building in Kinston.

Stumping the district earlier in the day, Dancy said, "Things are going well. I have managed to build good relationships in all three counties."

Graham showed appreciation to Dancy.

"I thank Mr. Dancy for running a clean race," he said. "If in office I can be of service to him I will be glad to."
