A Havelock family with ties to New York has started a relief drive for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Hurricane Sandy may have spared the Havelock area any major damage, but that doesn’t mean the storm didn’t have an effect.
A Havelock family with ties to New York has started a relief drive for those affected by Hurricane Sandy in the Northeast.
George and Patty Aswad, owners of Crabby Patty’s restaurant in Havelock, will be collecting canned goods, bottled water, clothing, toiletries and other relief supplies at their restaurant on East Main Street.
The sister, father and a cousin of Patty Aswad lost their homes during the storm. On her sister’s block alone, 30 homes were destroyed. In the Breezy Point area of New York, a fire destroyed another 50 homes.
George and Patty Aswad plan to leave Thursday to take supplies to residents in the affected areas. Those unable to make a donation by then can still drop off items at the restaurant for future trips.
