  • The annual Coastal Carolina Ag Fair opens today at the Jaycees Fairground on U.S. 70 between Havelock and New Bern.

  • The annual Coastal Carolina Ag Fair opens today at the Jaycees Fairground on U.S. 70 between Havelock and New Bern.
    The fair runs through Oct. 21.
    According to the fairís website, the 11-day event will feature new rides, a free admission circus on the midway daily, free parking and special free admission nights for students, military, law enforcement, firefighters and emergency services personnel.
    Admission is $5, but does not include rides. An unlimited ride stamp is $15 and individual ride tickets are $1. Ride tickets are not good for games, which require cash.
    Attractions include 4-H demonstrations and talent show, the livestock barn, model train display, mechanical bull and pony rides, a Kidzville, food show, professional bull riders, wildlife presentations, horse-drawn equipment demonstrations and other events.
    Professional bull riders from Hangín Tree Ranch perform at 8 p.m. Friday and again Saturday.
    Entertainers include Fat Daddy and The Soul Shakers from 2 to 4 p.m. and again 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and again at 2 p.m. Sunday. Stairwell is scheduled to perform on Oct. 19.
    Monday and Tuesday are designated as Student Nights, with elementary and middle school students admitted free with a paid adult.
    "Carload Special Night" is Wednesday, with a special offer on gate and ride prices. "Local Heroes Night" for military and emergency personnel is Oct. 18, with free admission.
