Recently within the city leadership community there has been a noticeable shift in the paradigm. The director of Public Services, the assistant city manager and the director of the Planning and Inspections Department departed their posts and have moved on to greater and perhaps somewhat greener pastures, or are planning to do so. Perhaps those who remain, to tend the store, so to speak, should read the following prophetic words and consider the impact their decisions have had, and will have on our community over the next decade.
The words so eloquently and precisely delivered by Sir Winston Churchill are quoted as follows, and I believe, as applicable today as they were when spoken over 70 some years ago.
"To every man, there comes in his lifetime, that special moment, when he is physically tapped on the shoulder and offered the chance to do a very special thing, unique to him and fitted to his talent; what a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which would be his finest hour."
