  • Havelockís Tempestt Frazier was on a mission to spike, and block, everything at the net in the Ramsí 3-0 victory Tuesday at West Craven.
For the most part for Frazier, it was a mission accomplished.
The senior leader registered eight kills and eight service points in addition to trading blocks with West Cravenís Nyeesha Roundtree.
"I feel like we talked really well tonight and kept pushing each other, and thatís what we have to do to win," Frazier said. "I feel like this year, my senior year, I am stepping up and being more of a leader instead of a follower like I was last year."
The victory was Havelockís second in the Coastal 3A Conference and second in a row. The Rams are now 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
"The team is coming together nicely," Havelock coach Amy McCutcheon said. "We try and play every point like it is 0-0, and every time they (West Craven) tried to make a comeback, we stopped them."
The Eagles were led by Jasmine Raynor and Kaylee Koerperich, in addition to the solid play of Roundtree at the net.
Raynor delivered eight service points, while Roundtree had seven kills and Koerperich added four kills.
"We didnít talk very well tonight and didnít get in our right places on the court," Raynor said. "We trust coach (Sheila Holloway) though and we know that she knows what sheís talking about and we just need more communication."
As for her much improved serve technique, Raynor said she has developed a pre-serve routine that settles her down and gets her in rhythm.
"Our problems are all mental things and having a lack of consistency and confidence on defense," Holloway said. "Iíve changed a lot of the girlsí positions on the court and they are all just getting used to their new rotation and positions."
The Rams are next scheduled to play White Oak today at Havelock High, with the junior varsity scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
