  • The North Carolina chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association has scheduled its eighth annual Inside and Out Tournament for Oct. 13 in Beaufort.
For this yearís tournament, proceeds will benefit local fishing captain Charles Brown, who was recently diagnosed with small cell cancer.
Brown was a former commercial fisherman and is now a fishing guide who has been a longtime supporter of the CCA and preserving coastal resources, according to a release.
"CCA NC has many friends from all walks of life and from all over our great state," CCA NC board member Chuck Laughridge said in a statement. "One of the hardest workers and most colorful characters is Captain Charles Brown. These funds would normally go to NCís artificial reef program, but this year they will go to a real man with a real battle on his hands that we all know he can win."
The Boathouse in Beaufort is serving as tournament headquarters.
The tournament features divisions for redfish (red drum), speckled trout, flounder, king mackerel and false albacore.
A captainís party on Oct. 12 kicks off the event, with fishing scheduled for Oct. 13, with an after party also scheduled.
The entry fee is $150 per boat before Oct. 5 and $200 after Oct. 5. Cash and prizes will go to the winners.
